As avid players of board games and card games, we thought you might like to know what our favourites are. Thus, we present to you our Top Board Games. These are the cream of the crop as played by people at LegendGames regularly. We've just decided Puerto Rico should have a spot in our list having played it over the past couple of months - its really good!

Of all the games we play, its often those designed by Reiner Knizia that we keep coming back to. We list a selection of games by this designer here. Tigris and Euphrates is one of his. Its one of our favourites of all time.

The Ticket to Ride Boardgame is a cross-country train adventure in which players collect and play matching train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities on the board. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who can fulfill their Destination Tickets by connecting two distant cities, and to the player who builds the longest continuous railway.

Strategic boardgame featruring the German Postal System. Well regarded game in the Board Games community.

Designed by the master himself, Reiner Knizia. The Tigris and Euphates board game is a tile-laying game set in the ancient Babylonian cradle of civilisation between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Players compete to develop kingdoms that generate them points in one of four colours. Although its not hard gaining points in some colours, the clever part is that the winner is the player with the most points in his lowest colour. This is a high strategy low luck game, widely considered to be Knizias finest game to date.

Axis and Allies game from Hasbro / Avalon Hill

Several stand alone games and expansions all based around the very popular Carcassonne tile placing board game. Check out the City of Carcassonne - it’s a great new game.

Cheapass games have a desevedly good reputation for producing great games at low low prices. Sure, they do not come in shiny packages with nice dice and pretty counters. Nope, they come with the bare essentials, and you have to scrounge the dice and the counters or whatever else you may need from other games. Hands up anyone who doesn't have a few dice kicking around, or something you can use as counters. No-one? Exactly.

Yo, dude, like they STILL so live here, man. Woe, like heavy nova. Hey, pass the pizza, compadre......

It's the game that combines lasers with classic strategy. Players alternate turns moving Egyptian-themed pieces having two, one or no mirrored surfaces

So, you love Settlers of Catan eh? Well, why not try some of these other fab board games such as Kahuna, Lost Cities and Vinci - to name a few. Many of these games have won awards and are considered to be some of the best games on the market.

Killer Bunnies & the Quest for the Magic Carrot is a fast paced, action filled card game, in which you must try to keep as many Bunnies alive as possible, while eliminating your opponents' Bunnies. The problem: Your opponents are armed with weapons and will stop at nothing to keep you from winning the game, which can get dreadfully vengeful, horribly nasty, hilariously messy, and just plain fun!

The Lord of the Rings board game by Reiner Knizia, pits upto 5 players against Saurons Dark forces. You have to work as a team in this fab game. New expansions also available too.

Power Grid is a great bidding and resource management board game. We play it regularly, its in our top 10. Also has several expansions including new boards.

The Settlers of Catan boardgame series is a classic 'board game' designed by Klaus Teuber and published by Mayfair Games. The original game has been updated with the addition of several expansion sets, 5-6 player extension sets and a new non-collectable card game. The Settlers series are firm favourites of ours. The game has been revised in 2007 with all new artwork and an improved board setup. The rules are the same, the game is the same.

The pulp action 'B' movie boardgame of the living dead! You can even get 'Glow in the Dark' zombie figures to go with it. Awesome.

When Darkness Comes is a tile-based board game that combines roleplaying with boardgaming. The first core set, called "The Awakening", deals with the undead (zombies, mummies, vampires, etc)

The Haunting House is a wildly fun, fast paced, strategy boardgame with a twist. The object is simple, players enter the front door and race to be the first to reach the exit. It's not as easy as it sounds. Half the time the players choose their own path. The other half their paths are chosen randomly by opponents. Additionally, the board elements constantly change as the game progresses. For 2 to 6 players, ages 10 and up. Average game time is 30 minutes. This game was designed by Kerry Breitenstein with all new art by David Aikins.
